Chelsea legend emerged as shock candidate to replace Maurizio Sarri

Chelsea legend and Maurizio Sarri’s assistant coach Gianfranco Zola could become the next manager of the Blues if Italian manager gets sacked from his current job after 6-0 defeat to Manchester City.

According to the Sport Mediaset reports,  Zola could remain at Stamford Bridge and become interim manager before the end of the 2018/19 season.

The report suggested that Gianfranco Zola could be a short-term replacement for Sarri to fix for Chelsea before searching a new long-term manager.

Zola will be no stranger to the responsibilities, he has taken up media duty throughout Sarri’s arrival at the club, filling in during cup games and Europa League clashes.

The ex-Chelsea forward has not enjoyed the best managerial career, however, has impressed as a number two alongside former Napoli boss, providing a useful connection to both the club and the management staff.

The Blues are no strangers to interim head-coach, with Roberto Di Matteo famously led the team to the Champions League title.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are reportedly trying to secure services of Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie from AC Milan as part of a swap deal that could see £40m flop Tiemoue Bakayoko making a permanent move to the opposite side.

Bakayoko is currently on loan at AC Milan after failing to adapt to the Englis football during his one and only season at Stamford Bridge he is having an impressive season for Gerrano Gattuso’s side and ready to make his loan spell permanent.

The French midfielder has improved in Serie A a slow start to his loan spell and recently revealed that he ‘dreams’ to remain at San Siro.

Chelsea and Man Utd have reportedly been given hope of securing services of Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho from La Liga giants Barcelona this summer.

Former Inter Mila nand Liverpool forward has completed a dream move to Camp Nou during the January transfer window after Spanish giants agreed to pay Liverpool an initial £105million to secure his services.

While he won the three titles in the first few months of his career at La Liga giants, Coutinho is now being rumoured with departure from the club after a frustrating season at Nou Camp.

Maurizio Sarri has taken not-so-subtle swipe at Chelsea owner amid exit rumours

Chelsea head-coach Maurizio Sarri has taken a not-so-subtle swipe at the club owner Roman Abramovich amid suggestions his future at Stamford Bridge could be under threat following Sunday’s 6-0 loss to direct Premier League rivals Manchester City.

The west Londoners suffered their biggest defeat since 1991 at the Etihad Stadium, with Argentina international forward Sergio Aguero scored his second hat-trick this season as the Premier League defending champions blew away the visitors in 25 frantic minutes at the start of the game.

The Blues have now lost three successive away games, to Bournemouth, Arsenal and Manchester City, leading to speculation that Sarri’s job has been in danger.

Asked by Sky Sport Italia if he was expecting meeting with Chelsea owner, from Abramovich to discuss his future, Italian manager responded in rather sassy fashion: ‘If the president calls, I’ll be happy, seeing as I never hear from him.

‘To be honest, I don’t know what to expect.’
