Chelsea legend and Maurizio Sarri’s assistant coach Gianfranco Zola could become the next manager of the Blues if Italian manager gets sacked from his current job after 6-0 defeat to Manchester City.
According to the Sport Mediaset reports, Zola could remain at Stamford Bridge and become interim manager before the end of the 2018/19 season.
The report suggested that Gianfranco Zola could be a short-term replacement for Sarri to fix for Chelsea before searching a new long-term manager.
Zola will be no stranger to the responsibilities, he has taken up media duty throughout Sarri’s arrival at the club, filling in during cup games and Europa League clashes.
The ex-Chelsea forward has not enjoyed the best managerial career, however, has impressed as a number two alongside former Napoli boss, providing a useful connection to both the club and the management staff.
The Blues are no strangers to interim head-coach, with Roberto Di Matteo famously led the team to the Champions League title.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are reportedly trying to secure services of Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie from AC Milan as part of a swap deal that could see £40m flop Tiemoue Bakayoko making a permanent move to the opposite side.
Bakayoko is currently on loan at AC Milan after failing to adapt to the Englis football during his one and only season at Stamford Bridge he is having an impressive season for Gerrano Gattuso’s side and ready to make his loan spell permanent.
The French midfielder has improved in Serie A a slow start to his loan spell and recently revealed that he ‘dreams’ to remain at San Siro.
