London club are reportedly keen to beat former coach Antonio Conte and Inter Milan to the signing of Marash Kumbulla this summer. Chelsea are prepared to pay up to £21m for the Hellas Verona centre-back.
Marash has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with the Italian club, featuring eighteen times in the league, in what has been his senior debut season for the club. Blues are reportedly keen to strengthen their back-line for the next campaign, but they will need to act fast to convince Marash to join.
The report also cites Inter Milan in being interested though, with Blues potentially losing to ruin Antonio Conte’s transfer plans. It appears that the Italian club are leading the chase, having already started talks with the defender’s representatives.
Chelsea manager currently has a number of options available to him in that department, including the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Fikayo Tomori, Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen.
In turn, should they step up their pursuit of Albania international, they may well have to make space for him in the team, while they do currently have the worst defensive record of the top seven clubs in the Premier League and so that would suggest improvements are needed in that area of the team to shore things up at the back.
