Chelsea have been handed massive blow in their pursuit of Cagliari playmaker Nicolo Barella, with reports from Italy indicating that he is keen to remain in Serie A.
The 22-year-old playmaker appears to be all but set for an exit from Cagliari ahead of next campaign, however, a switch to the English top-tier does not seem to be on the cards.
Italian playmaker, according to Il Mattino has informed his entourage that he wants to continue performing on top level in Italy’s top-tier for the time being, with Serie A giants AC Milan and AS Roma also planning move for his signature.
This comes as a massive blow to the West London club, who had reportedly held talks with Serie A outfits Cagliari about a possible move in the nearby future.
The Blues were not the only Premier League team that have expressed interested in signing of the 22-year-old playmaker.
Il Mattino’s report states that Arsenal were keen, while previous claims indicated that Man Utd wanted to secure his signature ahead of the next season.
Meanwhile, Chelsea loanee midfielder Mateo Kovacic’s agents have reportedly been in contact with both Bayern Munich and Inter Milan ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
The West London club have signed the midfielder from La Liga giants Real Madrid temporarily during the last summer transfer window after he was deemed surplus to the club’s requirements.
Croatia international is set to make a return to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium at the end of the current campaign, but according to a report from FC Inter News, he is not a part of Zinedine Zidane’s plans and might be seeking an exit from the European champions.
