Chelsea had chance to sign Liverpool record signing last season

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker had the chance to join Chelsea in the summer but has explained that Champions League football attracted him to Merseyside.

The Brazil international moved from Roma to Liverpool for around £67 million ahead of the 2018/19 season, but the Reds were not his only option at the time.

The 26-year-old has admitted that Chelsea were also interested in his signature, but the allure of competing in Europe’s top competition drew him to Anfield.

‘I chose Liverpool for the same reasons I went to Roma when I first left Brazil – I thought this would be the best move for my career,’ the stopper told FourFourTwo.

‘Chelsea were changing their manager and not playing in the Champions League. I’ve also always admired Liverpool’s history. This is a club with five European Cups in their trophy cabinet. I wanted to be part of that history.’

‘I came very close to winning the competition with Roma, and I’m working hard to make it happen now with Liverpool.

‘What’s life if not fighting for your dreams? I dream of winning the Champions League.’

Alisson has kept 12 clean sheets in just 21 Premier League appearances so far in his Liverpool career.
