Chelsea are considering a summer transfer for Rapid Vienna wonderkid Melih Ibrahimoglu, reports claim.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Chelsea are ready to battle it out with Italian clubs Sampdoria and Roma to sign the 19-year-old midfielder, who has been dubbed ‘the new Mesut Ozil‘ due to his vision and technical ability on the ball.
Melih Ibrahimoglu has shined for the Rapid Vienna second team this campaign with a string of excellent displays, scoring four goals in 11 matches in the Austrian Regional League.
The midfielder has also represented Austria at Under-20 level, and it is thought he could be available for a cut-price fee, with his current agreement expiring in the summer of 2021.
Stamford Bridge chiefs think they could strike a deal for the skilled young midfielder for a fee in the region of £3million.
Chelsea have already signed playmaker, Hakim Ziyech, from Ajax for £33.6m ahead of next campaign, with the Morocco international ace set to link up with Frank Lampard’s side in July.
And ex-Netherlands striker Andy van der Meyde has questioned Hakim Ziyech’s decision to join the Blues, claiming he could have joined a more ‘stable’ club.
“The Eredivisie is a training party for Ziyech”, the former Everton ace told Dutch outlet VTBL.“It makes sense that he looking for a new team. You need that as a top athlete.
“I just didn’t expect him to go to Chelsea. I don’t think it’s a top team nor a stable club. I would have expected Bayern Munich or someone of that size.
“Of course, it could be that the hierarchy below Liverpool changes if Manchester City are really punished [by UEFA], and maybe Chelsea will benefit from it, and they will play for the top trophies, but then again, if they play, I don’t think: “Wow, I’ll stay at home and watch”.’
