Chelsea are on the brink of signing Gonzalo Higuain as Maurizio Sarri is desperate to strengthen his attacking options in January and the Argentina international is one of his preferred targets this transfer window.
Gonzalo Higuain thrived under Maurizio Sarri’s guidance at Napoli and broke the Serie A record with 37 goals in the 2015/16 season. According to Marca, the duo will now be reunited once again as the striker has ‘said yes’ to Chelsea’s offer.
The report adds that the deal could now be finalised ‘in the coming hours’ as the Blues are willing to pay Gonzalo Higuain’s salary, as well as a potential €40 million (£36m) fee to make the loan move permanent in the summer.
Gonzalo Higuain is currently on loan at San Siro although the 31-year-old has struggled for form with only eight goals in 20 appearances this term. But Maurizio Sarri is a huge admirer of South American forward and called the striker as a ‘goal machine’ in an interview with Corriere dello Sport earlier this season.
‘I miss Higuain a great deal. I miss him because he’ll keep scoring goals until the day he dies,’ said the Italian boss. ‘He is a goal machine, a systematic and automatic jackpot.’
