Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans is confident he made the right choice in making the switch to Leicester City this summer despite interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.
The 22-year-old former AS Monaco midfielder has completed a loan move to the Foxes last January and caught the eye with a string of outstanding form in the English top-tier as he notched up three goals and four assists in the second half of the 2018/19 campaign.
Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers who has been in charge of Leicester City made it clear he wanted to make Tielemans’ deal permanent at the King Power Stadium, however, his form also alerted England’s top teams to a potential summer transfer including Man Utd and Arsenal.
The Foxes reached a £40million agreement with Belgian midfielder’ parent club, Monaco, at the beginning of July and the 22-year-old midfielder signed a four-year contract with the Foxes.
Though Tielemans was ‘happy’ to be rumoured with ‘big teams’ like Arsenal and Manchester United, he insists the Foxes is the right fit for him at this stage of his career.
‘During the transfer window, I was happy of the interest of certain big clubs,’ he said ahead of Belgium’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against San Marino and Scotland.
‘I needed to make a choice for my young career and I think it was the right one. To arrive off the back of a €45m transfer doesn’t change anything.
‘They already knew me at Leicester. My loan spell went very good. I wanted to continue playing in this club.’
