Man United this summer have completed world-record transfer £89m for French superstar Paul Pogba who has arrived at Old Trafford from Serie A champions Juventus.
Earlier today La Liga champions Barcelona who have been also linked with a move to French sensation have confirmed that they passed up their first option on Paul Pogba – allowing the Red Devils to win the race for Juventus midfielder.
Luiz Enrique’s side were believed to have agreed a deal 12 months ago that would give them priority to sign the 22-year-old midfielder for £85million, however, deal has been never materialised as Pogba joined Man United.
“Last year we reached a deal with Juventus for us to have a priority option when they sold Pogba,” he said.
“This summer we decided that there were players that suited us better on a sporting level.
“The idea of the board was that nobody would be able to get ahead of us in the market.
“It allowed us to have options.”
After missing out Paul Pogba the Catalans ended up with signing Euro 2016 winner midfielder Andre Gomes who cost them €35 million, plus €20 million in add-ons.
