According to reports Barcelona are upset at losing out to Arsenal in the hunt to sign Gabriel Martinelli.
Unai Emery’s side landed the 18-year-old from Brazilian side Ituano in a £6 million agreement this summer and the forward has been quick to make an impact for the Gunners.
Martinelli has made nine matches for Arsenal so far, but he’s netted seven goals, including two in the 5-5 thriller versus Liverpool in their Carabao Cup clash at Anfield last month.
Before his transfer to Arsenal, Martinelli had a trial at Manchester United while he also spent time at Barcelona’s La Masia academy earlier this year.
But the Spanish champions decided versus signing Martinelli, which allowed Arsenal to transfer in and secure a deal for the forward.
And according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s hierarchy are unhappy that they let Martinelli slip through the net, mainly as he passed through their academy just a few months before he opted to sign the Gunners.
Martinelli’s plays for Arsenal have also been praised by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
‘He’s really unbelievable,’ Klopp said earlier this month.
So young, looks so mature already, is a proper threat. Yeah, he seems like a decent player.’
David Luiz has also hailed Martinelli’s attitude since he made a move to Arsenal in the summer.
‘I always say, talents, I have seen many, but great mentality, I didn’t see many,’ Luiz told 90min.
‘And who arrives far? It’s great mentality, not just talent.
‘I’m not going to say to you about who is the most talented, but the best mentality at the moment is Martinelli.
‘He has a great mentality, especially because I know Brazilians at 18 years old.
‘He’s a top guy, a top player, but what makes me more impressed is the mentality in the training ground, the way he reacts after he scores goals.’
