Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have been told by a national newspaper to pursue Barcelona defender Sergio Roberto in the next transfer market to add depth to the squad.
The Reds could well be in the transfer window for a new full-back in January and one national newspaper thinks the Anfield outfit should look at Barcelona player Sergio Roberto.
The Express highlighted three stars they think manager Jurgen Klopp should scout over the next few months; Sergio Roberto, Dusan Tadic of Ajax and Kai Havertz of Bayer Leverkusen.
The Reds are unlikely to make a big splash on a forward in January – all indications are they’re lining up a big move for next summer.
However, the shortage of variants at full-back could see them dip into the transfer market to bolster the defence.
Sergi is seen as a good flexible option by the outlet as he can cover both the right and left side and would be able to offer attacking options as well as defensive experience for both wings.
However, his contract runs until the summer of 2022 and would not be available cheaply. It looks unlikely that the club would spend big money on a backup defender who turns 28-years-old before the campaign finishes.
The need for more depth at the left-back position was highlighted this week in the defeat to Napoli in the UCL. Andrew Robertson had to pass a late fitness test and was involved in both goals conceded late in the match.
The head coach was almost forced to start the player with no other senior option at the position and England international James Milner needed to rotate in midfield.
