Atletico Madrid are reportedly set to offer Saul Niguez a fresh contract in a bid to keep out of the clutches of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United.
Diario AS claim that Atletico Marid have got wind of the reported interest from the Red Devils and are preparing a wage increase for the 24-year-old star.
Saul penned an amazing nine-year deal in the summer of 2017 and he therefore still has seven years to run on that deal but Atletico are preparing a significant pay rise on his reported €100,000 per week contract in order to keep the player from straying.
The club will increase the Spanish midfielder’s annual salary to €10.5m – around €218,000 per week – making him Los Rojiblancos’ highest earner.
The prospective new deal would not mean an extension, and his release clause would apparently remain the same at €150m. A clause which Manchester United are prepared to meet, according to Sport, if France international Paul Pogba departs this summer.
Spanish outlet AS stated United were back on the trail of Saul earlier this month, but after selling Antoine Griezmann to fellow La Liga outfit Barcelona in a €120m deal, they will be desperate to retain the services of their player.
