Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have reportedly joined their La Liga rivals Barcelona in the race to secure services of Alexandre Lacazette during the summer transfer window, according to the reports.
The Catalan club were rumoured to French forward as a potential alternative to Antoine Griezmann, however, now Atletico are considering the Gunners attacker as their replacement for their wantaway star.
World-Cup winning forward has announced this week he would be departing from Atletico Madrid at the end of the current campaign, with Spanish champions, Barcelona and PSG called as frontrunners to secure Griezmann’s services.
Le 10 Sport reported that Atletico have made an initial approach to gather information on Lacazette and a potential move for his signature.
While no formal talks with the Gunners have been opened, the North London club will be concerned about another side registering strong interest for their forward.
The 27-year-old forward is a crucial player in the Gunners squad, having struck up an excellent partnership with Gabon international forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Lacazette has found back of the net 13 times in the English top-tier this campaign, as well as chipping in with eight assists.
Lacazette has also managed to score five goals in the Europa League, as the North London club prepares for the final in Baku against their arch-rivals Chelsea.
While Atletico weigh up whether to move for Lacazette, the La Liga giants are also interested in signing the PSG centre-forward Edinson Cavani.
Frenchman has responded to the Catalans interest in him last weekend, admitting he was ‘flattered’ to be rumoured with a switch to Nou Camp.
