AS Roma new head-coach Claudio Ranieri is keen to sign Chelsea out-of-favour midfielder Danny Drinkwater, according to the Calciomercato. reports
The Italian has replaced Eusebio Di Francesco as Roma’s next head-coach and appears to already have plans for the upcoming summer transfer window.
Chelsea midfielder has been frozen out at Stamford Bridge since his transfer from Leicester City back in 2017,
Former Leicester City man has found it hard to play a single minute in the Premier League under Maurizio Sarri, and his future seems to lay far away from the West London club.
The English international has seen all of Ross Barkley, N’Golo Kane, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and Ruben Loftus-Cheek preferred to him all season long.
However, an escape route from London could present itself this summer, with Calciomercato reporting that former Leicester City head-coach is keen to reunite with his former player at Stadio Olimpico.
Ranieri worked with the player during his time at Leicester City, where Drinkwater was part of the Foxes historical run in 2015/16 campaign that ended with claiming the Premier League trophy.
Calciomercato reports that Ranieri has identified Drinkwater as a replacement for club legend Daniele De Rossi who could leave the Stadio Olimpico after the end of the current campaign.
Meanwhile, Chelsa continues to chase AS Roma winger Cengiz Under who has been a top transfer target for hosts of European teams including the Blues direct Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal.
