Arsenal recruited Nicolas Pepe scored in Ivory Coast’s 3-1 win over DR Congo on Sunday afternoon after an excellent assist from Crystal Palace sensation Wilfried Zaha – and Gunners summer signing Pepe has sent Zaha a message on Instagram.
Pepe, 24, has struggled since trading Lille for North London club. The Ivorian impelled Lille into the Champions League last season, collected 23 goals and 12 assists as his team finished in second place in Ligue 1.
It saw him earn a £72million move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window, but he is yet to replicate such form for the Gunners. It comes after Arsenal were eyeing with Zaha before signing Pepe, with Sky Sports claim Arsenal were willing to spend £70million on Zaha.
But Zaha remained at Palace, notwithstanding late reported requests from Everton. Now, Zaha has rediscovered his excellent form, and his elegant footwork gave Pepe an easy tap-in against DR Congo – as seen below, on Zaha’s Twitter account.
The Ivory Coast eased past DR Congo, with Zaha getting on the score sheet himself in injury time after defender Wilfried Kanon put Ivory Coast ahead. Chadrac Akolo scored support for DR Congo in the second half.
Pepe took to Instagram himself after making his fifth goal for his country, thanking previously-linked Zaha for his assist to goal in the friendly win. The first part of his post is translated as: “Always a pleasure to score for my country.”
