Arsenal set to make January move 23-year-old Bundesliga defender

The London-based giants Arsenal are reportedly interested in a potential deal to sign German star Julian Weigl from Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund, according to the latest reports in Germany.

A tabloid newspaper Sport Bild are reporting that Gunners chief Sven Mislintat is keen to bring the highly-rated midfielder to the club.

Weigl has been heavily connected with moves away from Die Borussen in recent seasons, but no deal has ever materialised.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were previously among his admirers, with Spanish coach aware of the player’s huge potential.

Weigl was previously regarded as one of Borussia Dortmund’s brightest aces but has played less of a starring role this campaign under Lucien Favre.

The form of summer signing Belgian star Axel Witsel has seen the star fall further down the pecking order with the Bundesliga giants.

The links to the Premier League club come as no surprise following Sven Mislintat’s work since arriving from the German club.

The likes of Gabon international star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Armenian attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan all have connections with the Bundesliga club.
