FC Barcelona are willing to sell highly-rated French defender Samuel Umtiti for €40m, according to the Spanish media outlet Marca.
The Reports suggest that Spanish giants Barcelona would let the defender go for an offer of ‘around €40m’, though they do add a couple of details that make a transfer less likely.
Arsenal are keen on to strengthen their defensive end ahead of the next season and Umtiti has been on top of their wishlist.
Firstly, Umtiti doesn’t want to depart from the Nou Camp, despite all the rumours suggesting he’s on the verge to leave the club. Secondly, he’s struggling with persistent knee injuries, which will make any team hesitant to splash money this summer.
Arsenal have been rumoured with Umtiti for a couple of months, though David Ornstein admitted on BBC Radio 5 Live recently that he has no idea if the rumours are true.
“No idea,” Ornstein said. “There is a Barcelona link there with Arsenal’s head of football Raul Sanllehi, and Umtiti is seen to be surplus to requirements at Barcelona, but I don’t know.”
The BBC journalist did confirm that French defender was one of the teams two priorities in the upcoming summer transfer window, along with a box-to-box midfielder as the Gunners keen on to fill the gap that has been left after the departure of Aaron Ramsey.
