Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger has earmarked Schalke ace Max Meyer as the main target for the next summer.
The Schalke and Germany national team midfielder can play in a variety position: as an attacking midfielder or forward, or even as a deep-lying playmaker.
The 22-year-old midfielder is out of contract with Schalke at the end of the current campaign and Arsenal are set to face stiff competition for his signature from their Premier League rivals Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently searching a replacement for Philippe Coutinho who has made January move to Barcelona.
But it is believed that Wenger is already working hard on persuading Meyer and trying to use Ozil’s influence on young German midfielder in order to lure him at Emirates Stadium.
Hopes of landing German starlet were boosted last month after Schalke CEO Christian Heidel refused to rule out the summer exit of Max Meyer.
He said: “Max will be deciding shortly if he wants to stay at Schalke past the summer.
“Max is very happy here, Schalke is his home, we will try to make it him as comfortable financially as possible.
“He is playing the best season of his life, and the coach has found a position for him that Max didn’t believe he could play.
“Personally, I didn’t think he could either.”
Bordeaux attacker Malcom has claimed that he wanted to leave the French side in the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old was understood to be a target for Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, however, the Ligue 1 side rejected to entertain any offers for their footballer.
Malcom has now announced that, although still wanting to move to a bigger side, he will give his all for Bordeaux until the end of the campaign before considering his opportunities.
“I wanted to leave, I tell the truth,” the Brazilian told to Telefoot. “It’s my dream to progress in my career.
“I spoke with the president [Stephane Martin], he told me that he knew it was my dream, but that he needed me.
“I told him he could count on me until the end [of the season]. I will do everything to bring Bordeaux to the top six in Ligue 1.”
He is, yet to be capped at senior international level by Brazil, is believed to be rated at £45m by Bordeaux.
Meanwhile, Arsenal legend Ian Wright has blamed Arsene Wenger of ‘destroying’ Alexandre Lacazette‘s faith at the club this campaign.
“He [Lacazette] has played well in games, he has scored goals, but he has been taken off, Wenger has destroyed Lacazette’s confidence.” – said Wright.
Arsenal are reportedly preparing summer move for Benfica winger Andrija Zivkovic.
The 21-year-old has impressed since breaking into the Benfica first team, netting one goal and creating three more in 14 games for the club across all competitions so far this season.
The Serb only joined the Portuguese side from Partizan Belgrade last summer, however, he was already on Arsenal’s radar before that switch.
The North Londoners sent scouts to observe Zivkovic at the Under-21 European Championship last term and have stayed to monitor his development with a view to a future move.
Sports Witness suggests that Arsenal could now look to make that move at the end of this campaign as they look to reinforce their attacking options.
