Turkish Football have reported that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are still keeping a close eye on AS Roma ace Cengiz Under this summer, despite the Turkish winger being in talks to pen a new contract.
The 21-year-old star has shone for Giallorossi since joining the Rome club from Istanbul Basaksehir in the summer window of 2017.
Cengiz had a hand in 16 goals this campaign, netting six times and laying on another 10 assists in just 32 matches.
A 17-time Turkey international already, Cengiz has enormous potential and that has seen both Gunners and Spurs become interested. Both clubs have been connected with the wide man for a while.
The latest report claims that Roma are in contract negotiations with Under, but that Arsenal and Tottenham are monitoring the situation. It is understood AS Roma will not sell him for anything less than £44 million.
It is believed that an agreement is yet to be reached between Under’s representatives and Roma and that the player is interested in chancing his arm in the EPL. He currently earns just £17,000 per week at Roma.
He is an excellent talent. Netting goals at the highest level, including the UCL and already an established important figure of his national side – Cengiz is one of Europe’s best U23 talents.
But the positives don’t stop there. Under’s price tag is somewhat cheap considering the current market. A 21-year-old in wonderful form for one of Europe’s best clubs would normally cost a whole lot more.
His deal is tiny in the grand scheme of things – even in comparison to Spurs’ wage structure. For either Arsenal or Tottenham, Under would be an excellent signing, both on and off the pitch.
Valencia shot-stopper Neto has been pinpointed by Arsenal as a potential replacement for the retiring Petr Cech.
Gunners manager Unai Emery will need a new number two as Cech will retire after Gunners’ Europa League final versus Chelsea.
According to Marca, the Brazilian is Emery’s ideal choice in spite of having Colombia international David Ospina scheduled to return from a loan with Serie A side Napoli at the end of the campaign.
The Spanish outlet added that Neto has an exit clause of €80 million (£70 million) which could provide Gunners with a stumbling block, especially if they don’t return to the UEFA Champions League by winning the UEFA Europa League final next week.
As Sportsmail reported a couple of months ago, failure to return to European football’s most prestigious side competition will likely leave Unai with a budget of around £45 million to work with in the summer.
Neto has played 47 matches for Valencia in their 2018-19 term and featured against Gunners in the Europa League semi-final, where Unai’s men ran out 7-3 aggregate winners.
The 29-year-old star also won his first Brazil cap the previous September with an appearance in their 5-0 friendly victory over El Salvador.
Neto would likely want guarantees over senior-team football with Bernd Leno Unai’s first choice for the EPL in 2018-19, but the Spanish manager has rotated and used Petr Cech for their European fixtures.
Arsenal are reportedly lining up a move for River Plate starlet Exequiel Palacios after his proposed move to Real Madrid collapsed the previous summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old Palacios is very highly rated in Argentina and has been included in his country’s final 23-man roster for this summer’s Copa America in Brazil.
