Arsenal are one of several clubs chasing Portuguese winger Gelson Martins as the attacker attempts to have his deal with Sporting Lisbon terminated, reports say.
Portugal international forward is among a host of Sporting Lisbon player revolting against the team after a trouble-stricken campaign.
Players were assaulted by their own fans at a training session last month and Portuguese forward has moved to release himself from his deal, insisting he has ‘just cause’ to terminate his deal with Sporting Lisbon.
It means Martins should be available for free this summer, just days after the Gunners reportedly lodged two bids to secure his services while Liverpool also thought to be interested in securing his services.
Sky Sports claim Arsenal are not the only club interested to secure services of 23-year-old forward and their bitter Premier League rivals Liverpool are also in the hunt.
Sporting wanted £90million for Martins last year however with the player himself is keen on to leave the club he might be available for a cut price deal.
Arsenal have already signed Lichsteiner as a free agent while Liverpool have secured services of Fabinho.
Arsenal are reportedly planning to announce the arrival of new goalkeeper Bernd Leno within days
The Bayer Leverkusen stopper has been rumoured with a move away from German club this summer, with Liverpool also thought to be interested in securing his services.
A transfer to Napoli did seem to be all, however, sealed after Leverkusen admitted that they have reached an agreement over the exit of their star player.
However, SportBild claims the Gunners have won the race for the highly-rated keeper and expect Leno to become Petr Cech’s long-term replacement.
Leno will cost around £20million, and the Gunners are close to coming to terms with the German club and the player.
The news will come as a huge blow for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp identified Leno as a replacement for Loris Karius whose errors cost the Reds Champions League trophy.
Cech has just a year left on his deal with the Gunners, and Unai Emery is expected to solve the goalkeeping problems ahead of the new season.
Emery arrives at the Emirates Stadium after Arsene Wenger ended his 22-year reign back in the may.
