Arsenal are trying to sell Shkodran Mustafi before the European transfer markets close in three weeks’ time.

And the club could even allow the struggling German defender to go out on loan just to get his £80,000 per week salary off their wage bill.

Coach Unai Emery has told Shkodran that he does not have a future at the Emirates Stadium and needs to revive his career with another club.

The 27-year-old centre-back cost £35 million when Mustafi was signed from Valencia three seasons but could now be sold for as little as £15 million.

The club will have seven centre-halfs when everyone is fit and available as well as Nacho Monreal, who frequently played as part of a back three last term.

And Shkodran has been told he’s at the back of that very long queue after failing to even make the substitutions’ bench for Sunday’s E{: opening win at Newcastle United.

That was in spite of Konstantinos Mavrapanos and Rob Holding both being unfit to play and new acquisition David Luiz not considered for the starting eleven so soon after his deadline day arrival.

Mustafi made 39 matches for the Gunners last campaign but was booed by fans during the club’s pre-season matches and now accepts the player needs to move on.

He has resisted the Gunners’ efforts to sell him during the past two summers but fears he’ll be consigned to the sidelines if the star hangs around for much longer in spite of having another two years of his deal to run.

A host of Italian clubs have been alerted to Shkodran’s availability, with AC Milan, SS Lazio and Sampdoria all regarded as possible purchasers.
