Defender Malang Sarr has reportedly emerged as a surprise transfer target for Arsenal.
Due to the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic, Gunners head-coach Mikel Arteta has a restricted budget for the next summer transfer window.
That effectively leaves the Gunners boss to assess whether there is value in securing the services of a player on a free transfer or on a season-long loan deal.
According to Marca, Mikel Arteta has taken an interest in Sarr’s contract expiring at Nice, where the 21-year-old defender has played 113 games in all competitions.
During the last season, the left-sided defender has helped Nice finish in the fifth position in the Ligue 1 and qualify for the Europe League tournament next season.
RB Leipzig are also believed to be admirers of the talented defender, who has earned eight caps for France U-21 side.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have reportedly tabled an offer for Le Havre key man Pape Gueye.
The 21-year-old midfielder turned out 25 times for the Ligue 2 team during the 2019-20 season, however, Gueye’s current deal with Le Havre will ends at the end of June.
Premier League outfits Watford were previously believed to have won the battle for Gueye’s services. However, the playmaker has since confirmed that he will not be joining Nigel Pearson’s team during the summer transfer window.
