Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has stated that he prefers to play as typical no.9 or rather perform on the wing.
As quoted by the Evening Standard, the Gabon international forward has discussed his ambitions of following in the footsteps of the Gunners legends Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry.
Gabon forward has joined the North London club in the January transfer window earlier on in the year as Wenger took advantage of his precarious situation at German club Borussia Dortmund.
Following Unai Emery’s arrival at the Emirates Stadium during the summer transfer window, the 29-year-old’s importance has continued to prevail.
Aubameyang has been a key player for Unai Emery’s starting XI that are currently on the fifth place of the Premier League table.
The attacker has found the net on 10 times in all competitions this season, with eight of these strikes coming in the English top-tier.
Former Saint-Etienne forward is enjoying life under Emery, it seems, however, conceded that he still prefers to lead the line for the Gunners:
“It’s good when you are coming to work and you have great examples, Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, and it’s great to try to follow that. We try to follow in their footsteps. It’s not easy. It’s not pressure, but you have to be good so you work for that.
“I prefer to play as a striker, but I’m a guy who wants to work for the team as well. If they need me on the wing, I will play on the wing, of course. But I prefer to play up front.”
