Real Madrid versatile midfielder Mateo Kovacic is reportedly closing in on a loan move to Chelsea, according to the reports from Spain.
Croatia international midfielder has joined Real Madrid from Serie A giants Inter Milan in 2015 and has made over 100 appearances for the European champions over the last three campaigns, yet he started only 10 La Liga games last season.
The 24-year-old was a part of the Croatia national team that reached the final of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and he admitted during the tournament that he would consider exit from Santiago Bernabeu in order to secure regular first-team football elsewhere.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old midfielder this summer, however, according to Marca, Kovacic is on the brink to make a loan move to Chelsea for the 2018-19 season.
Kovacic has won one La Liga title and three Champions League during his time at Santiago Bernabeu.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are also closing in on a deal for another La Liga star Kepa Arrizabalaga with the Blues are reportedly activated player £71m release clause.
