Gillingham shot-stopper Tomas Holy has revealed he laughed when he heard the reports of Premier League giants Arsenal interest in him the previous month, and says he doesn’t know how the rumours started.
Back in July, the DailyMirror reported that the Gunners were among four clubs to show a strong interest in the goalkeeper, and Gillingham were evidently preparing to lose their No.1 before the window closed.
Asked about the rumour by reporters in his home country of the Czech Republic, Tomas admitted the story never really had anything to it.
“When I learned of this, I called it a weekend joke,” Tomas told ceskatelevize.cz.
“I asked my agent, David Bald, where the story came from and what it means. Even he didn’t know. No one knows where that information came from.
“In addition, after buying Bernd Leno and with Arsenal’s goalkeeping situation, I couldn’t imagine why a team like Arsenal would have taken me right now.
This season, in all competitions (League One, EFL Cup), the 26-year-old Tomas Holy made 6 appearances for his team, conceded 8 goals and collected 2 clean sheets.
