Christian Heidel, the sporting director of Schalke, has confirmed talks with Chelsea defender Baba Rahman on a season-long loan deal, according to the Goal.
The Ghanian defender has spent 2016/17 season on loan at Schalke after failing to secure regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge since his 22m transfer from Augsburg.
The 23-year-old Ghanaian defender has returned to the club after rupturing his cruciate ligament, which saw his loan cancelled.
Despite looking like an ideal fit for Conte’s system, Ghana international defender is unlikely to have a future at Stamford Bridge due to a high competition and might be keen on to make a return in Germany for 2017/18 season.
Chelsea are in the market for a new wing-back, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alex Sandor remains as favourites to arrive at Stamford Bridge before the end of the summer transfer window.
Schalke sporting director Heidel has confirmed that his club are in talks with the player over a return to Bundesliga.
“We are in talks with the player, his agent and Chelsea. Ultimately, it is about when Baba will be able to play again. No decision has been made yet”
