According to reports from France, Unai Emery personally persuaded Matteo Guendouzi to join Arsenal ahead of Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain. The 19-year-old is due to undergo a medical with the Gunners on Monday ahead of reported £7 million move from French outfit Lorient.
As L’Equipe claims, Matteo Guendouzi had attracted interest from Italian side Roma also, but Spanish manager ensured that Arsenal won the race by convincing the midfielder to join the Premier League giants. The report adds ]that Guendouzi was recommended to Emery by Arsenal’s head of recruitment Sven Mislintat. The youngster is set to sign a four-year contract with north Londoners with the option for an additional year.
Matteo Guendouzi, who had just a year remaining on his deal with Lorient, plays as a defensive midfielder and appeared in 21 matches all competitions last term and also represented France at Under-20 level.
The Gunners are also on the brink of completing a second transfer on Monday as Lucas Torreira has arrived in England. The midfielder postponed his medical because of World Cup campaign, but he has travelled from Russia to the UK to finalise his transfer.
‘I would have been very happy to be able to return to Uruguay with my teammates,’ Torreira said on Sunday. ‘But this is a fantastic opportunity [to join Arsenal] and I do not want to waste it.’
