Manchester Untied have been desperately chasing Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane, who has recently reacted to speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford and finally killed Red Devils fans hope to sign him in the summer.
Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho was said to be keen on luring him to Old Trafford after working with the Frenchman while he was in charge at Santiago Bernabeu.
Speaking to Spanish outlet Marca, Varane insisted that he is happy in La Liga and planning to remain with the Royals.
“I want to stay here [at Real Madrid] this year, I feel loved by the fans who want the best for me, and the best is yet to come,” he said.
“I hope to be allowed to start afresh- I’d like to push on, to continue improving. After being at Real for five years, I want to make the next step.”
Former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has already lured Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitarayn this summer and further changes are expected in the remaining of the season.
The signing of Varane would reportedly increase Reds chances to finish the season on top of the Premier League table.
However, with France international defender is looking to stay at the Bernabeu next season, Mourinho will have to look elsewhere if he wants to bolster his defensive options.
