Chelsea and Manchester City have reportedly identified Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Toby Alderweireld as a possible transfer target for the next season.
The 28-year-old centre-back has missed a large chunk of the current season following the knee injury, being limited to only 10 Premier League appearances for the Spurs.
Belgian star did return and play the full 90 minutes during the recent FA Cup victory over Newport County, however, he was then left out of the matchday squad altogether for the derby game against Arsenal.
The Guardian reports that Man City and Chelsea are both eyeing Alderweireld’s situation at Tottenham and would be interested in making a move for 28-year-old defender.
Defending Premier League champions are believed to be considering defensive reinforcements following questionable performances of David Luiz and Garry Cahill whereas Man City could look to sell their captain Vincent Kompany after the end of the current campaign.
Tottenham are likely to be reluctant to lose their star players to a direct Premier League rival, though, Aldewailed might be keen on to leave the Lillywhite’s in order to win the silverware.
Chelsea are also believed to be interested in signing of Serie A giants Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
