Liverpool joined the race for Chelsea target Kalidou Koulibaly, according to reports.
As per Calciomercato, the Premier League duo are ready to battle for Napoli centre-back who is open for a move from Sao Paolo Stadium.
The 25-year-old defender, who is valued at around £48m has been on the verge to sign for Chelsea last season. However, the deal hasn’t been materialised.
However, Napoli bigwig Aurelio De Laurentiis is believed to be ready to sell centre-back now.
When quizzed about the centre-back last month, he said: “If there’s a new offer from Chelsea for Koulibaly?
“It will depend on the player’s will, because if he doesn’t want to stay then he can leave.”
The Senegalese powerhouse has committed his future with Napoli earlier in January by signing the new five-year deal.
Both Liverpool and Chelsea need to bolster their defensive options, as Premier League duo returned to Europe’s most elite competition.
Chelsea are desperate to replace John Terry, while the Reds need to source a commanding defender having struggled at the back this term.
Meanwhile, Kalidou Koulibaly’s teammate Dries Mertens has been also linked with a move to Premier League and Napoli could lose two key players this summer.
