Rome-based club Lazio are still arguing with Stefan de Vrij over his new release clause, and Liverpool could take advantage of the situation to lure Dutchman at Anfield in January.
The defender is in private talks with Lazio over fresh terms as his current deal set to expire at the end of 2017/18 season.
Italian giants have made the 25-year-old centre-back an offer of around £1.8m-a-year with will end in 2021.
However, according to Il Tempo, Dutch international centre-back is stalling talks as he is unhappy with the release clause has been inserted in the deal.
The 25-year-old defender wants it to be pencilled in at around £20m, while Lazio want £40m.
The two parties are currently negotiating over the release clause and if they fail to reach agreement de Vrijj will be able to talk to foreign clubs in January and Liverpool seems to be his favoured destination.
Jurgen Klopp’s centere=back position looks terrible this term and needs an upgrade in order to compete for all possible trophies.
