Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has confirmed that defender Stefan de Vrij will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The 26-year-old’s current contract with the Italian outfit expires this summer, and talks over an extension have proved fruitless.
Dutch centre-back has been heavily linked with a switch to Liverpool in last two transfer windows as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his defensive options for the upcoming season, but the Reds are expected to face competition for his signature from the likes of Arsenal, Barcelona, and Inter Milan.
“It’s a decision made after many months. There’s a limit to everything. We will say goodbye at the end of the season,” Tare is quoted as saying by The Mirror.
Dutch international defender has played 29 games across all competitions for Serie A giants so far this campaign, founding the back of the net four goals in Italian league to help the club into fourth in the table.
Meanwhile, Liverpool and Arsenal are also trying to strengthen their offensive and eyeing a move for France international winger Thomas Lemar.
