Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen has revealed his thoughts on his future at Stamford Bridge and believes that he would flop with Chelsea if he chose to join them at the age of 16.
The Danish playmaker has been key player for Tottenham Hotspur since his transfer from Ajax back in 2013 and is one of the best players for Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
However, his career could gone different direction if he had panned for Chelsea at the age of 16 instead of Ajax.
The 24-year-old midfielder had rejected a host of top European clubs including Chelsea, AC Milan and Barcelona to join Ajax.
Eriksen believes that Ajax treatment with the young players has helped him to become world-class player and have to play one of the best team in Premier League, unlike Chelsea who are sending all of their young talents out on loan to Eredivise teams.
And he suspects his life as a footballer could have followed a vastly different path had he joined Chelsea instead.
‘In Denmark, you are sure to play if you were good, but Ajax played you if you did not have the mentality and went 100% to it.
‘It did not matter who you were. It was about getting better every day.
‘If I had chosen Chelsea, then my situation today would be completely different. I’m sure.
‘Of course, you never say never, because I would have been 100% into it, if I had chosen it.
‘I just felt that there was more chance to fail than succeed.’
