Man Utd and Chelsea have entered the race to sign Barcelona defender Jordi Alba, according to the reports from Spain.
The 29-year-old full-back has been waiting for the Catalans to offer him a new deal and his agent says he has been left baffled by the lack of movement in negotiations.
The Spain international defender was told 18 months ago he would receive a new bumper deal at Nou Camp, however, has yet to be offered any extension.
Spaniard’s current contract expires in 2020 and Sport claim the Red Devils and the Blues have been alerted to the dispute between the player and his club, and are planning to make a move his signature.
Both Premier League giants are on the hunt for a new defender, and Jose Mourinho is desperate to strengthen his full-back options.
Alba is highly regarded across football as a player who can help the team in the attack.
But, the Spain international’s agent hinted there is a growing tension between Alba and Barcelona, and suggested his client had been mistreated.
‘Raul Sanllehi was still at the club when they told us not to worry, that they were going to call us to renew,’ Fores told Sport.
‘But we are still waiting. It’s been a year and a half now. We don’t understand anything, maybe it’s normal for Barca or maybe they’re not happy with the performances of a player included in FIFA’s XI and who is the defender with the most assists in European football.’
The 29-year-old defender surely cost a hefty figure as he has been one of the best players at his position.
Alba made 48 appearances this campaign, providing 12 assists in those games
