Chelsea handed massive blow in their pursuit for €60m-rated Frenchman

Barcelona are reportedly redoubling their efforts to reward France international defender Samuel Umtiti in Spain amid reports linking him with a switch to Chelsea and Manchester United.

Premier League heavyweights are desperate to land the French centre-back who has been in stunning form since his move to Barcelona from Lyon.

The club recently opened talks with the agent of player renewing his contract, according to the Mundo Deportivo reports.

France international defender has been contracted with the Catalan outfit until 2021. However, his current deal has €60m (£52m) release clause and both Chelsea and Man Utd could trigger it.

Reports linking the French defender with the Nou Camp exit emerged following rumours that the Catalan club’s hierarchy was displeased with his performance last week’s 3-0 defeat at Roma, which knocked them from the Champions League 1/4 finals.

Umtiti joined Barca from French outfit Lyon back in 2016 and since then has established himself as a world-class defender that has led rumours linking him with a switch to Chelsea and Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Man United are determined to sign another Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic after the end of the current campaign in order to strengthen their midfield options.

Manchester United urged to sign prolific Chelsea forward

Manchester United head-coach Jose Mourinho has been advised that signing Willian could help the Red Devils to compete with Manchester City for the Premier League title, with United reportedly keen on signing the Chelsea star.

The Brazilian has been in fine form for Chelsea this term scoring 13-goals and providing 12-assists in the process.

And Garth Crooks believes that South American winger could be the key to overtaking Manchester City in the Premier League next campaign, although he is not convinced that the Blues would sell him.

‘I think this lad has been Chelsea’s best player this season,’ Crooks told the BBC.

“He provided two assists against Southampton and has been as consistent as anyone in the Blues line-up.

‘Rumours that Manchester United have their sights set on Willian make for interesting reading.

‘Does this mean Paul Pogba or Juan Mata might be surplus to requirements? The bigger question is whether Chelsea would sell another one of their star players to United.

‘If so, Antonio Conte might as well give Mourinho the contact details of the company which engraves the Premier League trophy while he’s at it.’

Meanwhile, Manchester United continue chase for another Chelsea star David Luiz who has been on the verge to leave the Stamfod Bridge after the end of the current campaign.

Deal On: Chelsea favourties to sign prolific Serie A forward

Chelsea may have the edge over hosts of European teams to sign a highly-sought-after striker Edin Dzeko due to one key reason.

The Blues could beat the likes of AC Milan to seal a transfer for Former Manchester City forward.

The respected Italian outlet CalcioMercato reported that AC Milan have shown serious interest to secure the services of Bosnia Herzegovina national team forward who currently plays for AS Roma. However, the report suggests that Italian giants would be unwilling to part with the forward and refusing to sell him the to direct Premier League rivals and it gives Chelsea advantage to secure his services.

The Daily Mail reported, earlier in January that defending Premier League champions were eying up the pursuit for Bosnia Herzegovina International forward with Antonio Conte’s side lodged a £25m bid for his signature.

The 32-year-old forward has had a superb season for the Italian giants this campaign and played a vital role in Roma’s heroics in the Champions League.

Italian giants overturned a 4-1 deficit against Barcelona in the Champions League, and Dzeko lead the historic comeback by registering AS Roma’s first goal rewarding a penalty.

Roma, of course, will not want to part with such a talented forward. However, if they were to part with Bosman, the Blues could hold the edge over the likes of AC Milan in the race for his signature.
