The Dutch defender has made himself as one of the best defensive prospects in Premier League and his fine form this term has attracted interest from hosts of British clubs.
And Antonio Conte who is keen on to strengthen defensive are in the middle of the season and identified Virgil van Dijk as his no.1 transfer target and ready to break the bank for his signature.
Chelsea are likely to lose John Terry at the end of the current campaign and Dutchman seems to be an ideal addition to the squad that are fighting for the Premier League title.
And now Chelsea look ready to spend big to beat rivals City, Liverpool and Man United in the race for 25-year-old defeneder.
£60m would be a club-record purchase for the west Londoners, eclipsing the £50m they paid Liverpool for Fernando Torres in 2011, and it would also be significantly more than John Stones moved to City for in the summer.
Dutch defender Nathan Ake who has returned to Chelsea from his loan spell has aimed to fight for first-team role at Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old defender massively impressed during his time at Bournemouth and force Italian manager to recall him to his boyhood club.
Ake’s progress has been insane and now Dutchman is ready to fight for starting role at Stamford Bridge Stadium despite reports in British newspapers suggest that Player has been recalled as a back up for David Luiz.
On his loan spell at Dean Court, Ake said: ‘Over the six months I feel I have developed as a player, both on and off the pitch.
‘To start with I wasn’t playing too much, but I dealt with that mentally, kept going and was happy when I got my chance.’
The Netherlands Under-21 international thanked Howe for his time on the south coast and is now ready to prove to Conte that he’s the real deal.
‘I was able to learn a lot from the manager. He spoke to me a lot about how I could improve and I picked up a lot of little ideas and different ways of thinking,’ he added.
‘The ambition now is to continue to improve and break into the team at Chelsea.
‘It’s a great team and the manager there has given me a lot of confidence, so it’s something I’m looking forward to.’
Premier League trio Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City set to battle for Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, according to reports.
The 22-year-old has been one of the best young talents in Europe and Chelsea have identified him as a replacement for Oscare who has completed big money switch to China last month, while Man United want Monaco star to replace Morgan Schneiderlin who has been on the verge to sigh for Everton.
Mourinho also handed Michael Carrick a new one-year deal and has come to rely upon the 35-year-old in the heart of United’s midfield.
However, it’s unlikely that midfielder will be offered a new deal from Mourinho and Bakayako would be an ideal addition to Mourinho’s squad.
According to the Times, the 53-year-old’s identified Bakayoko as Carrick’s long-term replacement and could accelerate a move for the midfielder this month.
United had planned to move for him this summer but interest from Chelsea and Manchester City could force the Red Devils’ hand.
Bakayoko signed for Monaco three years ago in a £5.3m deal from Rennes and are believed to rate the midfielder at around £22m.
