CHELSEA are reportedly set to face stiff competition to sin Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles this summer from Tottenham Hotspur.
That’s according to the Evening Standard, who state that Lascelles is likely to leave the Newcastle United ahead of the next season.
The Magpies skipper meanwhile enjoyed an excellent campaign as a crucial part of Rafa Benitez’s side that finished 10th, starting 33 of their 38 league games and founding the net for three times.
Tottenham are in the market for a new centre-back, that’s with Toby Alderweireld increasingly likely to leave the White Hart Lane after rejecting a contract offer from the Spurs.
The Red Devils have been strongly touted to recruit the highly-rated defender who is believed to be valued at £50m.
And if Spurs sell Alderweireld, they are planning to spend money in securing the services of Jamal Lascelles.
David Luiz and Garry Cahill both face uncertain futures at Stamford Bridge, meanwhile, with Lascelles eyed as a future partner for Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.
Speaking to Newcastle’s Evening Chronicle last month, Lascelles said: “This is the happiest I’ve been. I’m very happy here.
“You hear things, you hear rumours and stuff, but I’m a young player and I need to be playing football at a good club – and that’s what this is.
“This is the right club for me at the right time.
“We have a huge fanbase, an amazing manager, and this club is massive. It has so much history.
“As captain, I want to see how far we can go – and potentially take it back to where it belongs.”
