According to the reports from Spanish publication Marca, Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale is going to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. But Chelsea won’t be among the clubs looking to sign him.
Welsh superstar simply doesn’t fit the model of players Chelsea are looking to sign at the moment. The main reasons said to be that The Welshman is too expensive and keened for injuries. And that’s why Chelsea’s front office decided not to add this kind of player to the squad.
Perhaps PSG or Manchester United can afford to throw money away on a risky signing just for the star power the former Spurs man brings to the table, but Chelsea don’t.
The policy has been made clear in recent windows: the focus is on cheap players, maybe injured or coming to the end of their contracts. Apart from that, medium level players with upside – like Antonio Rudiger – are what the club looks for to build for the future. Not declining megastars like Gareth Bale.
The current policy is understandable, but on the other hand Hazard and Bale would have been a powerful duo.
