Serie A giants Inter Milan have kept a close eye on Atletico Madrid defender and Arsenal long-term Jose Gimenez while he played against Chelsea in the final game of the Champions League group stage.
The South American defender is out of contract at the end of the current campaign, and he has been a transfer target for hosts of European giants including Arsenal and now Inter Milan as well.
According to Corriere dello Sport, their sporting director, Piero Ausilio, was at Stamford Bridge as he kept a performance of Gimenez.
Atletico are trying to tie the 22-year-old defender with a new deal, but Gimenez is holding until the end of the season to discuss another option from European giants.
Uruguayan defender has featured seven times in La Liga this season, adding a further four appearances in the Europe’s most elite competition.
Gimenez came into the Atletico Madrid first-team at a young age. However, he has failed to fully cement his place in the Diego Simeone’s side following the tough competition at the centre-back position.
The Inter and Arsenal-target has proven to be one of the best defenders in Europe and they are ready to fight for his signature during the summer transfer window.
Arsene Wenger’s side have strongly linked with him for some time as the see him as a perfect replacement for Per Mertesacker.
