Arsenal are in talks to sign La Liga outfits Sevilla defensive midfielder Steven Nzonzi, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
That’s despite the Gunners secure the services of Uruguay international midfielder Lucas Torreira, who plays at the same position.
Both Torreira and N’Zonzi are a defensive minded midfielder and both are highly thought of by the Gunners new head-coach Unai Emery.
“As far as Nzonzi is confirmed, we know they are in talks with Sevilla,” Sheth said on the Transfer Talk podcast yesterday.
“It does make sense. Unai Emery was the manager of Sevilla and he managed Nzonzi in his final year in charge of Sevilla.
“The information we’ve been getting throughout this window is that there’s something of a limited transfer budget.
“They’ve spent a fair bit so far and we’re told something along the lines of £50million.
“To fund a big signing you’d have to say of someone like Nzonzi who would probably command upwards of £30million, I’d think there’d have to be departures first to fund a move for someone like Nzonzi.”
Arsenal have been busy this summer secure the services of Stephan Lichsteiner, Brand Leno. Sokratis Papastathopoulos and French wonderkid Matteo Guendouzi.
