AC Milan are reportedly considering ending their interest in Chelsea underfire manager Antonio Conte as they are planning to reward Gennaro Gattuso with a new bumper deal.
Milan are believed to be a long-term admirer of Antonio Conte and were expected to make an approach the Italian once he leaves Chelsea, having failed to tempt him away from Stamford Bridge Stadium last summer.
Regardless of where defending Premier League champions finish this campaign, Italian head-coach could leave the Blues at the end of the 2017/18 season at the latest, although there has been speculation that defeat to Barcelona would result in him being sacked by Roman Abramovic.
However, the Evening Standard reports that Italian giants have been suitably impressed by Gattuso’s work at San Siro side and planning to offer him a contract extension.
Gattuso’s original contract at San Siro only lasts until the end of the current campaign, however, he has led the team to an eight-match unbeaten streak and could now be rewarded with a new two-year deal.
Conte is still thought to be on the radar of a number of Europe’s top clubs, though, with Inter Milan, Real Madrid and PSG all credited with an interest.
